Margaret (SA)
These beautifully hand painted bobbins were painted by Margaret, a talented lacemaker and painter, and member of the Witwatersrand Guild, in Johannesburg.
We know that she was painting some of the bobbins shown in 1990s when she was in her 80 and still painting into the early 2000s.
Brigitte remembers:
My mom told us that this lady painted them with the finest brushes and had her glasses on top of her head. Held bobbin in one hand and without wobbling, created these masterpieces! I love the elephant one. I work with unspangled bobbins, but I cannot resist pretty bobbins in need of saving!
