Acorn Bobbins

Acorn bobbins are turned by Rick Sutton. Most acorn bobbins are bone or ebony. The heads are very evenly proportioned with an almost squared off sphere and a short trumpet. The tails are the giveaway, each turned as an acorn. Rick also turns acorn beads for spangles.
Decoration includes pierced, carved, inlaid and painted bobbins. Carved areas are sometimes filled with coloured sealing wax. Rick’s bobbins were painted by GS (and sometimes signed GS), but she has now retired from bobbin painting.
Diane Miller also often painted on Acorn bobbins and sold these herself. Dee Carver uses Acorn bone bobbins for her painting.
