Brennan Bobbins
Heather Brennan writes:
I had a business "Brennan Bobbins" in the late 1980's to 90's selling lace making Bobbins at the Australian Lace Guild, Victorian Branch monthly meetings in Melbourne, Australia.
I made hundreds of Bobbins, Gimp Bobbins, Clamps and wooded headed Pins (sometimes out of Bobbins that broke on the lathe!) I also made Honiton Bobbins, Travel Bobbins and even earrings (beautiful dangly Bobbins with dainty spangles.) I did try deer antler and beef femur bone Bobbins. (To be honest, I really disliked the smell of turning bone!)
I almost always made Bobbins in pairs but sometimes customers would only buy one, which frustrated me to no end! Each pair was different; I rarely repeated a design. I was always trying different woods, and designs. I played with different shapes, spirals, drilled dots, paint, decoupage, varnish, foil, brass and fuse wire. I turned Cow & Calf Bobbins and loose rings.
Some are marked with a pyrographed B on the end, but not always.
I'm not sure that I had a style of my own, except variety!
